The Golden Chopsticks Awards will now be held on October 6th 2020
Given the escalation of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in the UK we have taken the difficult decision to delay the Golden Chopsticks Awards (GCAs) night to the 6th October 2020. The awards evening was originally due to take place on 27th April 2020, however, to safeguard against COVID-19, and the spread of the coronavirus, we have decided to postpone.
The GCAs, now in it’s third year, celebrates the achievements and contributions of the South East Asian community to the British food sector. The awards have earned its reputation for being a fun-filled night, with an exceptional atmosphere of camaraderie and support, and is attended by restaurateurs, suppliers, food services businesses, food writers and press. We are very proud of the reputation, momentum and following that the GCAs has gathered and feel that October is a more appropriate time to hold such a celebration of Oriental cuisine. We hope that by this time the Coronavirus situation will have improved and we can come together as a community to celebrate, after what will have been a very difficult time for businesses in the catering and hospitality sector, and of course the whole UK economy.
Will the voting be affected by the change of event date?
The public voting for this year’s GCAs closed on Thursday 12th of March and the results exceeded our expectations. The delay of the physical event will not affect the votes collected in any way. We achieved 20,000 votes last year, which was a phenomenal increase on the first year’s 4000 votes. Our aim was to reach 30,000 votes this year, however, we are thrilled to announce we received close to 49,500 votes. A staggering increase on the previous year. We will be collecting and counting all the votes over the next few weeks and finalists for each category will be contacted with an official announcement over the summer ahead of awards night on the 6th October.
In the words of Ken Hom, The Golden Chopsticks Awards Head Judge ‘I am thrilled with the amazing response to the voting this year which shows our solidarity and support for our restaurant community in the UK. We face challenging times ahead, but I am looking forward to celebrating all your hard work in a magical night in October! Together we will be stronger.’
Tickets to the awards ceremony are on sale now and will remain on sale until we sell out (in the previous 2 years we have sold out at least a month before awards night so if you’d like to attend we recommend securing your ticket early). We have already sold 50% of the tickets and tickets can be purchased online now here https://www.beautifuleventsandproductions.com/buy-tickets/
All tickets that have already been bought will automatically transfer to the new awards night date of the 6th October.
Finally, we were delighted to see the very positive public response to the launch of the 2020 Golden Chopsticks Awards campaign - the only awards to recognise Oriental cuisine in the UK, and the largest event of its kind worldwide - and thrilled to see the public supporting their favourite restaurants. In such challenging times for small businesses, it’s a very positive message. We very much look forward to a well- deserved night of celebration on the 6th October 2020.
